Coal is mined in over 100 countries, and on all continents except Antarctica. The largest proved reserves are found in the United States, Russia, China, India, Australia, and South Africa. There are at least 150 years of reserves based upon a reserves to production ratio.
Coal is the worlds most abundant power source, but processing coal and converting it to energy releases pollutants that can be harmful to human health. There have been intensive efforts to require the impementation of cleaning processes and scrubbers to remove impurities from coal. However, in developing countries, particularly those with ineffcient processing methods, or where the priority is placed on energy production to support economic growth versus compliance with emission standards, the health hazards associated with low-grade coal is a growing concern.
On December 2, the U.S. Department of Commerce will host a signing ceremony in Washington, DC between Clean Coal Technologies, Inc. (CCTI) and Sino-Mongolia International Railroad Systems Co. Ltd. (SMIRSC) to enter into a landmark agreement under which CCTI will provide the technology to enhance low-grade coal liquefaction facility in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, PRC.
